Pokemon Princesses

I've seen people trying to imitate Ken Sugimori's (the pokemon artist) style a lot on art sites, and I wanted to give it a shot as well. For a reason I don't quite know I decided to draw Disney princesses.

People comment a lot on what type of gym leaders they could be. Actually they're not trying to be gym leaders at all, so if your first thought is "that is a gym leader design!" I failed at what I was trying to do. Gym leaders have a wide variety of stuff they wear; the poison gym leader wears a ninja outfit, the water gym leader has a swimsuit, the rock gym leader wears something you could wear in a mine etc. An then there's random stuff like whatever Skyla, Winona, Clair and Brycen wear, and so on. But I wasn't aiming at that. If I were I would have drawn Ariel in a swimsuit, Aurora in a gardening outfit, Mulan in an armour etc etc etc. But I didn't, because I was trying to design them as "pokemon trainers", similar to the player characters. Something like an average kid going on adventures in the pokemon world where the average fashion design just happens to be like this.

Anastasia was supposed to be in the first batch since I like her quite a lot (and especially compared to the likes of Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora) who are very much "meh" to me), but I didn't want to deal with the "zomg anastasias not disney" comments I predicted drawing her in the same pic would cause. So she was left to the second piece, but when I ended up thinking of eleven more characters I thought it'd be good to split them to two pieces depending on whether they're Disney or not.

    Batch 1

Snow White, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
    snow White snow White

I often see her movie revered as the best Disney film ever. Never understood that, I found the character stupid and there was nothing that excited me about the film either.

She was the only one to get the round "Skyla eyes" as I call them. The reason for that is probably because when I started drawing the first eight princesses I was had a plan involving more variety. In the end it didn't turn out too well so I decided to stick with the standard eye style. But I've never liked Snow White so I wasn't exactly interested in fixing her...

I really, really, really wanted to use the red things on her sleeves, but that just didn't work out. I couldn't just copy them from the original, that would've been a lazy design, and I couldn't think of what else to do with them either. So I had to settle with a red pocket.

How I shaded and coloured the hair is a bit off as Snow White was the first one I coloured and I hadn't yet grasped the idea how I should try to imitate the Sugimori style. That's why her legs are shaded slightly differently from the rest of the princesses as well.

I was really happy how I could use the bow on her head. Dunno if the ribbons on the shoes are a bit too much, but at least they're cute?

    Cinderella
    cinderella cinderella

The movie left a very weak impression on me, but it got some points for at least being better than *shudder* Sleeping Beauty. Usually I do my best to sit through the whole movie when I watch it for the first time, but this time I had to resort to the forward button when it came to the antics of the dreadful mice sidekicks.

This design possibly came out a bit too tomboyish but I still kind of like it. The colours turned out nice and fresh, and the general drawing somewhat resembles Sugimori artwork more than the other princesses on average.

The hair is horrible though. I blame the original, I think her ballgown hairdo is stupid in the movie as well. Of course it's my fault for not choosing to use her peasant outfit hairdo though, but let's not go there.

I like the idea for the shirt tied to her waist, even if I blatantly copied the exection from Candice. How the head thing could be turned into a bandanna so easily was nice too. The pants were initially a skirt, but that just didn't work out so I had to use a more boyish option, even if something girly would have probably fit the character better. They used to be lighter too, but it made the outfit look too much like a pajama.

Aurora (Briar Rose), from the Sleeping Beauty
    aurora aurora

Aaand here comes my least favourite Disney Princess (explains a lot why her design turned out so bad). If I had known to watch the movie with the mentality "this is the Sleeping Beauty story from the fairies' point of view" I might have been a lot more tolerant about it, but how Disney markets her character and how her name kind of is in the title of the movie I expected the movie to be her movie. Sure, Snow White and Cinderella weren't exactly the most active heroines either but at least they were like, on screen.

Anyway the design doesn't really have a theme that'd tie it together, it's more like random stuff thrown together. I'm fairly certain that the original outfit would have given material for a lot better design, but unfortunately I wasn't too interested in putting much effort to the character.

I don't exactly get what's up with the hat. All the player characters have a hat, so I've tried to give some kind of headgear to my pokemon trainers as well. Someone had a hat design like this in my vast reference picture album and I decided to use it, but when I think of it now it might not have been such a good idea. The triangular pattern is supposed to represent the crown, it even was yellow at some point but that made the design even messier so I decided to stick with different shades of pink.

Also, I hate pink so the blue dress is my favourite by default. But since this already had two blue outfits in Cinderella and Belle and I believe she's know better from the pink colourscheme I had to give in. I guess my least favourite colour is just good for my least favourite princess...

If I had to say something good about the design it'd be the shoes, they turned out pretty nice. And the idea for the collar was pretty nice too. Also, the character's Briar Rose outfit is actually one of my favourites, so if I ever do an alternative piece with different outfits that will be one I'll definitely choose.

Belle, from the Beauty and the Beast
    belle belle

Beauty and the Beast seems to enjoy some kind of universal acclaim as a movie. I slightly disagree there; I don't think it's the best Disney movie evarrr (that'd be Mulan for me. Followed by Lilo&Stitch, Lion King and Tangled), BatB is in the "it was okay, but not something I'd want to buy to my own bookshelf" category. The Beast in his beast form and Gaston (especially his song) were awesome, but not awesome enough to support the entire movie, and I found Belle fairly boring and teetering on the edge of Mary Suedom. And "Be Our Guest" and anything involving the little teacup will be something I'll remember to skip when I watch the movie next time.

Oh, right, abou the design. It's one of the most successful designs in the Pokeprincess project if you ask me. It's nice and simple but fun enough to be a pokemon outfit and not just a regular costume. It just... works. I like the pockets and how it's divided into blue and white and the hair bow and everything. I'd like it if the shirt and dress were a bit easier to discern; she's supposed to wear a long sleeved shirt and a sleeveless dress over it.

This kind of breaks the general theme of giving the princesses their princess dress though (not counting Ariel). It's just that the blue dress is one of my favourite Disney outfits while I find the yellow thing pretty hideous. But it'd be nice to pokemonize that too.

So far nobody has mentioned how the lines of her left leg don't exactly match...

    Ariel, from the Little Mermaid
    ariel ariel

And here's the other girl who didn't get her princess dress. But that's okay, since we all know her and her colourscheme from the mermaid form and not from the pink thing don't we?

I've seen some people comment that they would have give her a dress or skirt since pants are weird for a mermaid. That's a fine viewpoint too, but I chose to use pants because having legs was a central element in her story. Also, the mermaid theme kind of demanded a more revealing outfit, but I thought that a shirt showing the belly and a mini skirt would be too much. In general I tried to go for something you could wear on a warm beach.

I think that a bandanna around your neck and a bandanna on your hips are nice ideas, but I really shouldn't have used them for the same character. Firstly, it's silly, and secondly, I could have saved the other for another character. I believe I had the idea to have them represent her tail, but I wish I had remembered to draw light green lines to them.

Not too pleased with the shirt. I wanted to give it lines going vertically like here, but the seashell bra reference asked for horizontal lines instead.

I've never understood how Ariel's bangs work, but hopefully what I could come up with is ok in the pokemon world where every other character has an insane hairstyle.

You can't see it too well, but the purple things on her sandals are seashells.

    Mulan
    mulan mulan

As of now my favourite Disney movie and princess I'm not quite happy with this, it doesn't do justice to her awesomeness. Maybe the pink matchmaker outfit would have given material to a more interesting outfit?

The biggest problem with this is that it's pretty boring. When designing an outfit for any purpose I always try to give an outfit one or two "special" things, something fun you'd remember about it. For example for Tiana it's the shape of the skirt hem and hat pattern, and for Belle it's how the dress is divided into blue and white (and the pockets for #2). As for Mulan... There's not much. The only idea I had was how the shirt is tied, but it's not interesting a detail enough to support the whole outfit when there's nothing else to back it up. I remember that when I drew the sketch I was worried about how many colours the dress had so I tried to keep the detail in minimum to compensate for the overload of colours, but that turned out not to be the correct decision.

The hairstyle at least attempts to be somewhat interesting but I'm not sure how well it manages it. I wonder if that's a real pokeball or just an accessory?

Tiana, from the Princess and the Frog
    tiana tiana

She did have the blue dress from Charlotte too, but I believe this is more iconic. I'd like to draw the blue dress too though.

At first I didn't like this outfit at all, but by now it has grown on me. I do find it a bit messy still. My main problem with it is that it's going everywhere and has a lot of random elements that have little to do with each other.

The idea for the hem design was decided from the start, but I had to redraw it more times than I would have liked. The flower thing on her waist was though; I wanted to include it but I couldn't figure out what I should do with it. I was against the idea of drawing a bag (none of the other princesses have one), but in the end I had to go for that anyway since I couldn't think of anything else. Or I tried to put a curly flowerlike accessory to her hat first, but that was just plain stupid. The curls are too thin for a pokemon design though if you ask me.

Her hair gave me trouble, since I had already drawn a hat I liked so I couldn't use the hairstyle with a bun. So I picked a ponytail hairstyle from her commoner outfits instead.

Now that I think of it, my main gripe with this might be the yellow colour after all. Should I have used a duller colour instead? But Pokemon characters have bright colours don't they?

The legs have the same problem as with Belle. Embarrassing...

    Rapunzel, from Tangled
    rapunzel rapunzel

She's one of my favourite princesses and I'm pretty pleased with the design, even if it has next to nothing to do with the original outfit. But people can recognise her from the hair and the purple colourscheme so hopefully that's enough.

The dress design is something I saw in my reference picture album, and I really really wanted to use it. Unfortunately I couldn't think of how to integrate it into Rapunzel's outfit, so my solution was "I'll forget Rapunzel's outfit then", which may not have been the best thing to do... I did have a weak attempt of trying to use the flower pattern from the dress somehow but it didn't work out too well. The top part that was lighter purple was completely forgotten, and the pink ribbon was a last minute addition in the "ugggh I have to take something from the original design" spirit.

The stripes on the sleeves were something I wanted to use too, and I ended up giving her thights. It seemed like a brilliant idea back then, but as for now I'm not so sure any more. They used to be a lot darker in the colouring phase, but that was just plain silly so I did my best to hide the colours.

The more I look at the hat the stupider it looks.

    Batch 2

    Eilonwy, from the Black Cauldron
    eilonwy eilonwy

Many people commented that they were glad I remembered her. I had no idea she had so many fans... I didn't like her movie at all, and the character was pretty boring.

Eilonwy (and Kida) were kind of problematic. I wanted to make a second Disney princess piece with Jasmine and Pocahontas who were missing from the first installment, and Merida, Giselle and Charlotte whom I just wanted to draw, but my collector insticts told me that I'd have to draw Eilonwy and Kida too to complete the series. This lead to the fact that I had to actually watch the movies because I had no interest in drawing characters I don't even know.

Kida was first; I knew nothing about her but my impression of her movie was "Hero goes to a mysterious place where he meets the local warrior princess Kida". Then I started watching Tresure Planet, where the hero was trying to reach the mysterious "treasure planet", and I kept waiting for Kida to make an appearance all movie. It wasn't until there was only 15 minutes left when I finally realised I got the wrong movie... As for Eilonwy, I was expecting Madam Mim and Merlin and a dragon to make an appearance all the time, and in the end the hero didn't pull the sword out of a stone (and when I was done watching I found out about the existence of "Sword in the Stone"). And when I watched Tarzan for Jane I was a bit disappointed how the snake with hypnotic eyes didn't appear...

About the design, it's boring and I don't like it. The skirt is nice, but everything else is just a rip-off combination of the original outfit and Red's shirt. I guess I could say I like the socks too?

Being an uninteresting character she got such an uninteresting pose too. I'm fairly certain that this wouldn't suck nearly as much as it does if I had at least bothered to draw a more dynamic pose.

    Jasmine, from Aladdin
    jasmine jasmine

I was very pleased with the sketch, but I can't quite say the same thing about the colours. I really had to struggle so that it wouldn't look like a pyjama but I'm not sure if I succeeded. Maybe I should have used a less saturated and darker colour for the pants? Shoes could be darker as well.

The ribbons on her hair are probably my favourite thing. At first I was unsure about them, but I couldn't think of what else to do with the earrings (I imagine the pokemon player characters as innocent kids and such larger earrings didn't sit well with that picture). I thought that ribbons like that might be weird when the rest of the outfit is a bit tomboyish with the pants, but it's not like she was particulary a tomboyish character. So the ribbons... balance the design, or something like that.

I wish I could have given her a hat of some kind but I couldn't fit it with the hair. So I had to settle with using the jewel on the headpiece for the belt.

In the first design attempt she had straight pants, like jeans. I'd like to use those for some other pokegirl, but I thought Jasmine should be given baggy pants.

Her (and Pocahontas') skin colour was a bit difficult; I eye dropped it from the disney picture but it made my pokegirl look like a carrot so I had to desaturate it a bit.

    Pocahontas
    pocahontas pocahontas

Her movie was pretty meh to me, not exactly "bad" but mostly "zzzzz" material. The animal companions annoyed me to no end though, and how they learned each other's language through magic was derpy.

The original design was pretty nice, and I believe I could have created something better if I had tried a bit harder. A notable part of the original dress is the asymmetric collar, but I thought somethign like that wouldn't fit the pokemon world where most characters are pretty symmetric. Also, I would have had to give her some kind of an undershirt anyway since such an open collar would have been too revealing. So I tried to use some kind of weird stripe instead.

I had serious trouble with the lower part of the outfit; I'm not sure if I should have given her pants, but if I had used a skirt with a similar design it would probably have been too similar to the original design. I do like how the pants turned out though. And the shoes, I was thinking of moccasins when I drew them (but to be fair, I don't think I've ever seen a moccasing so I probably didn't get too close).

The head was problematic as well. For starters the eyes wouldn't turn out right no matter how many times I redrew them. I solved the problem by giving her different eyes (as opposed to the standard pokemon eyes I gave nearly everyone else). And I just couldn't get her hairstyle not look stupid, so I hid it with a bandanna...

I'm a bit sad how I couldn't use the tattoo thing or the necklace. At least I could use the necklace colour for the bandanna, but that's not enough! Oh, the belt has a part of the necklace, I guess that's something.

Kida, from Atlantis : the Lost Empire
    kida kida

And here's the girl for whom I had to watch two movies. Why isn't there any good official full body art of her anyway? And since almost the whole movie takes place underwater the lightning never was convenient for seeing the colour properly.

Not really satisfied with the design, it has too much going on. And it's a bit disappointing since the original had material for a much more interesting design too, especially the skirt. And I could have tied her hair with something pokemon related. And I didn't even use the magic crystal that was such an important part of the character!

I thought if I should give her only one arm thing or a sock as she only has jewelry on one arm and leg, but I thought the design already had more than enough asymmetry with the hairstyle, face tattoo and skirt. Or whatever that thing she's wrapped around her hips is anyway. Is it a towel?

Tried using her earring for the zipper. Maybe I could have used the crystal here instead?

    Giselle, from Enchanted
    giselle giselle

I didn't realise that actually she never became a princess until I had already drawn her, but it's not like that matters since her character was practically a parody of the Disney princesses and it was this close that she didn't marry her prince anyway.

The hat has nothing to do with the character, but I saw a similar one in my reference image album, and since the pokemon characters tend to have hats I got an excuse to use it. I put some flowers on it so it's okay?

There's really not much to say about the design since it's so simple, but I really like it (possibly because I didn't end up cluttering it with unnecessary detail). The pose turned out pretty well too; it's a lot more dynamic than what the others are on average.

Charlotte la Bouff, from the Princess and the Frog
    charlotte charlotte

Oooooh Charlotte~~~~ She was my favourite thing about the movie. When I first saw her I was sure I'd hate her so it's very surprising how high she has gotten on my Disney character top10 list. She's not a princess either, but she just has to be included. Besides she's so ambitious in her prince chasing that she has probably married one by now anyway.

Charlotte and Giselle don't exactly stick to my original theme that was "adventurous clothes that would fit the player character of a pokemon game". But I believe it'd be a horrible mistake not to draw them in pink dresses so they get a pass.

I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. If you ignore the princessness (=remove all the ribbons) it'd possibly pass for a pokemon outfit pretty well. The pockets are probably my favourite part.

The hairstyle turned out a bit silly, I wish I had used some other hairstyle of hers instead. In the original sketch it was even higher, but it looked just plain idiotic. The gloves possibly don't sit too well with the rest of the design either.

Many people have told me that they mistook this for Cinderella's pink dress. I didn't see that coming since I've seen Cinderella a whooping one time and it left next to no impression on me, but I guess people who have seen it many times in their childhood remember such a one-scene wonder outfit better.

    Batch 3

    Thumbelina
    thumbelina thumbelina

Character and movie were pretty stupid, I am never going to watch this movie again. It was practically just a series of "Ooh! Thumbelina is in trouble!" "Ooh! Now she's in a different trouble!" events.

This is probably the laziest design here, apart from the skirt it's practically identical to the original outfit. The skirt didn't even have the pockets until just before scanning the sketch but I realised that it'd need SOMETHING, but unfortunately at that point I couldn't think of anything too interesting. Kind of weird how the Pokegirl turned out pretty boring, her outfit would have given material for a more interesting design too.

How she's tied her hair with the bandanna was the only idea I had for the outfit. In case you can't tell the white areas are supposed to represent the flowers she had in her hair in the original design.

What was fun about this was the hair; Pokemon characters tend to have pretty insane hairstyles so whenever any of the princesses had hair more interesting than just "long hair, not tied" I could at least try to do something with it.

The pose was a pain, I had to redraw it like ten times to get it work even somehow and not be a complete copy of an already existing pose. Wait, it's the same as Jasmine's after all? Damn...

    Odette, from the Swan Princess
    odette odette

Movie was forgettable and I had slight trouble understanding what the deal with the tortoise and frog was (for a long time I was under the impression that they were some of her servants transformed by the bad guy and not just random animal sidekicks). But the design!

This one was just plain easy, it practically created itself and I didn't need to do anything that required creativity or intelligence. From the start it was "pleated skirt, middle part blue, and tracsuit jacket with sleeve pattern taken from the original" and all that was left was drawing the vision. I'm kind of wondering if the poofy sleeves could have been utilised in some other way, but that would have taken it away from the original tracksuit idea so I belive this is better.

The pose turned out pretty well too, and surprisingly easily as well. Usually I have to redraw the limbs a few times to get something passable but this time it was ok from the start. Hair is kind of okay too, even if the highlight part isn't that pokemonish. The shade of the blue might not be the best possible but overall I'm very pleased with the outcome.

I remember being a bit uncertain about the laces on her shoes, but since Hilda has laces on hers I thought it'd be ok.

    Anastasia
    anastasia anastasia

This one's not exactly recognisable, I wonder how many people recognised the character without having to cheat it from the artist's comments. The problem is that she did have plenty of outfits in the movie (which is always a great thing!) none of them was exactly iconic. I alternated between this dress and her "Anya outfit" (the rags she wore in the beginning), but since the general idea thorough the project has been drawing the ballgowns and not the peasant outfits I had to go with this.

The dress wasn't exactly easy to pokemonise since it was pretty simple. The most memorable part about it are the huge see-through sleeves, which were something I couldn't draw to a pokemon trainer. I'm not happy at all with what I could come up with, but unfortunately I saw no other option.

She did have a nice ribbon to tie her hair with, but since Belle already had a similar one I decided to turn the tiara thing into a bandanna. But now that I think of it, plenty of my designs already had a bandanna as well... I wish I could have used the necklace somehow. I tried to turn it into some kind of chain hanging from her belt that had pokeballs attached to it, but it didn't look too good.

Somehow the design makes me think of a pokemon breeder more than a trainer. Maybe its' the bandanna?

    Fiona, from Shrek
    fiona fiona

This was pretty difficult since her most defining charasteristic is that she is, well, a green ogre. Which caused some problems since all the pokemon trainers I draw are human. I planned to give her green thights, but that didn't work too well with pants so long socks it is then.

The dress caused great annoyance. It's green, and... it's green. Yeah. There is some tiny pattern on the top part, but since Pokemon designs don't have that small detail I couldn't use it.

Her hairstyle was nice and I was glad I could draw something like that. The ribbons that were taken from Caitlin are supposed to represent the ogre ears.

Originally the hair was more brown, but when people commented on it I had to do a new google search on her and admit that I indeed should change it to a more reddish colour.

In the beginning I didn't like this design at all for being pretty boring, but now that I've had some time to observe it I guess it's somewhat balanced and the green colourscheme is nice and fresh.

    Merida, from Brave
    merida merida

    Really looking forward this movie.

The original sketch was a bit... meh, but the colours make it pretty nice. Very nice actually in my opinion. For some reason I ended up not using the sleeves in her original outfit (which were the only interesting part about it) and tried to imitate the white parts with arm band things instead. The hood is a bit redundant since she could never fit all that hair under it, but I had to do something with the cape. The hair itself didn't turn out too well, I should have spent a bit more effort on it.

Since this outfit was pretty bad at giving material for a design I took the belt idea from another outfit of hers.

Wait, you spell her name with é? What is this snobbery anyway? <--never bothers to write the é in Pokemon

    Batch 4

    Alice, from Alice in Wonderland
    alice alice

Originally I gave her pants, but then again I just can't think or Alice not wearing a blue and white skirt/dress (though I have to say that the new skirt looks better than the pants). That created a new problem since I already gave Belle a blue and white dress.

Not too pleased with the pose, aside from the hand holding the pokeball which I managed to draw without reference, I kind of like this. It's nice and simple, and the brighter blue differentiates it from the Belle design. The hair bow turned out a bit too Mickey Mouse ear-ish though...

At some point she had leg warmers but they just didn't work. I hope I'll get to use them for some other design instead. Also, the shoes had a spade style design (spade as in deck of cards), but it had too sharp and small corners that I had to remove them.

    Wendy Darling, from Peter Pan
    wendy wendy

Wendy was difficult because the original design gives so little to work with. This went through quite a many different versions before I managed to scrape up something passable. I believe the only creative idea here is the belt... The skirt hem could count if I hadn't copied it straight from Shauntal.

At some point she had 3/4 sleeves with stripes. The would have been kind of delicious to draw, but they just didn't go well with the rest of the design so I had to give them up.

Now that I think of it, this design has the "looks like a pyjama" problem too. Well, hopefully it's not that bad in this case.

    Tinkerbell, from Peter Pan
    tinkerbell tinkerbell

Using the original design and not the new one from the "Disney Fairies" or whatever they are, something about her new face bothers me to no end.

I'm not exactly sure about this. Tinkerbell really should have that horribly tiny mini dress, but I already used a design like that for Tiana. So I kind of had to think of something else. It is kind of cute, but I wonder if the character is recognisable? Also, I don't think the design is too pokemon-like, but trying to add random lines or pokeball patterns just made it worse. Especially when the original outfit is so simple, it didn't give me too much material to work with.

I like the poofy things on her shoes, I wish I could have used them a bit more creatively. I ended up putting one to her hair too... The other hair thing is supposed to represent her wings.

It was slightly annoying how the colour of her wings was inconsistent in the pictures I could find. In the end I just went with blue, but I don't think it was the best choice for the upper part of her shirt.

Esmeralda, from the Hunchback of Notre Dame
    esmeralda esmeralda

The theme of the movie is one of the best musical numbers Disney has ever made. Also, I remember being very... confused when I started to watch the movie with the "it's a Disney film, it's going to be all cutesy and childish" mentality, and then comes Frollo's "Hellfire". Kind of didn't see that coming (it was an awesome piece too).

The design doesn't please me at all. The original design had so much potential for a fun and creative design, but mine doesn't work the way I want. The problem is that Esmeralda's outfit has so many elements (bandanna, earring, poofy sleeves, turquise/yellow... shirt part, the cloth on her hips, the yellow things hanging from it, jewelry on her wrists and ankles), and tons of colours (pink, white, yellow, turquoise, purple, dark purple). And I just had to try to stuff them all into one design...

The skirt doesn't really work either, the cloth thing could have been used in a more creative way. Originally the skirt was light purple and the dark purple thing was a bandanna wrapped around her waist similar to the original, but since I have already used the "bandanna/cloth around the waist" four times I thought I should think of something else. At least it's different from the original.

My design was actually even busier before I realised I should try to simplify it as much as possible; the shoes and wristbands had more lines and the bandanna had a pokeball pattern.

    Megara, from Hercules
    megara megara

This turned out better than I expected from the sketch. I think that the biggest problem here is that the pose makes her look too... masculine(?). Especially when you consider how feminine the original character design is. But the colourscheme saves a lot.

The skirt was difficult. I would have wanted to use something similar to Leaf's, but I didn't want to copy her design just like that so I had to think of a cheap alternative.

I like how the shoes turned out. This is actually one of the four cases where I had the "hey! I have a fun idea on what to do with the shoes!" feeling, everything else has just been drawing random shapes to the shoes since the pokemon shoes never make much sense (the other shoes were Snow White, Pocahontas and Tinkerbell. But Snow White and Tinkerbell shouldn't count since I just copied the original design...).

I still don't know what I was thinking with this. I mean, she had such a nice skirt with a distinct design that could easily have been simplified to the pokemon world, and I give her pants? It had something to do with thinking that it'd be nice for someone who goes into a jungle, but still... Besides, it looks way too much like Bugsy's outfit.

Aside from that I like how this turned out. The colours turned out calm and peaceful, but that's just because I eyedropped them from a screen cap of the movie because I feared that it'd be difficult to recognise the character. Then there's the little problem that it doesn't exactly fit within my original criteria of "what a player character in pokemon games would look like", but maybe it's ok this time?

Shoes turned out pretty ugly. Should have used a darker shade for the laces, and probably gotten rid of the purple half-pokeball shape.

I wasn't sure what I should do with her. I considered drawing her as a little kid, but in the end I drew her in the same preteen body (or whatever it is). That's because a) it fits the lineup better that way, and b) I changed most of the other characters' ages too anyway, but in their case I mostly aged them down instead.

Overall I'm a bit pleased with the design. It's super simple and I picked the least creative idea ever, but it's not like the original was that detailed either. I guess I could have tried to do something with her shoes, but I've never really put much thought into the shoes department.
