Cosplay outfits in the Usagi Drop dress up

The cosplay outfits page is actually hidden and you have to figure out how to unlock it (No idea why I had to make it hidden in the first place though). So start looking for it right now! But if you're a bad sport who gives up you can check the solution at the bottom of this page.

The original idea for the cosplay outfits page started from the thought that I wanted to draw Kaede, Menma and Yotsuba's outfits as well, because they (and Rin) were all young kids from anime/manga series I had followed lately. But because just three cosplay outfits really isn't enough I had to think more, and it kinda got out of hand as always. I did not plan having to split them to two pages...

Overall I tried thinking of outfits from young female characters. I also had plans for something from a Disney movie (Alice? Jessie (Toy Story)? Lilo?), but I couldn't decide on the character and I already had a nice even number of ten so I left it out.

rin Hikari Yagami, from Digimon Adventure

This came from thinking "what other well-known and suitable young girl characters are there?". Since I had already drawn the Pokemon outfit I thought I should draw something for Digimon too, and the original Hikari design seemed good for the theme of the game.

rin Yotsuba Koiwai, from Yotsuba&!

The Yotsuba outfit was to be included right from the start, namely because of the simpleness (fast to draw...) of the clothes and the age of the character and her role in the story being close to Rin's.

rin Kaede Kaburagi, from Tiger&Bunny

This is probably what gave me the idea for the cosplay section in the first place. I've been kind of wanting to make a Kaede dress up, but it's a bit difficult when she only has three outfits in the entire series... Maybe there was some more in the flashbacks.

I was pretty lazy layering the collar of the vest so I hope that nobody tries to use it with something unsuitable.

rin

rin Lyra (Kotone), from Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver

When thinking of what other well known child designs there are the Pokemon kids came to my mind fairly fast. And Lyra's design has been my favourite for quite a while so it was easy to pick it. Hilda or Misty could have been other options.

rin

rin Mario, from... Super Mario games

After drawing the Lyra outfit I thought this would be too lulzy an addition to skip so I had to draw it too.

rin

rin Satsuki Kusakabe, from My Neighbour Totoro

At the same time when I was pondering which Disney girl I should include (and ending up with drawing none of them) I was trying to decide on a Ghibli girl as well. I considered Kiki but in the end I thought her outfit was too similar to Rin's black funeral dress, and Ponyo would have been too simple and possibly too hard to recognise. Chihiro could have been nice as well.

rin

rin Rin Kagamine, from Vocaloid

This got in only because I felt that I'd have to include a popular Rin's outfit in a Rin game cosplay section. I've drawn this far more often than I'd like to... I can count it appearing in 6 of my dress ups. I don't even know anything about Vocaloid in the first place!

Lazy layering with the headpiece. I've never liked layering them, I should have considered it already when first drawing the doll.

rin

rin Meiko "Menma" Honma, from Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai

The sandals are from a reference picture where she is younger but wore the shame dress. But I chose to use the older pic as a reference because that's what she looks like most of the time in the series.

I really want to make that Menma mini game one day. Hopefully that'll actually remain a mini game instead of growing far too large like the Usagi drop game, but hopefully it'll be easier to keep small because Menma always wore the same thing in the present storyline.

rin

rin Rin, from Inuyasha

This got in solely because of the name of the character. Other than that I don't have much to say about it. I guess it's easier for visitors to recognise than something from Penguindrum or AnoHana?

rin

rin Himari Takakura, from Mawaru-Penguindrum

Urggghh the dress bothers me so much. It's not a dress, it's a shirt and a skirt! But! I drew it as a dress! Because I was just plain lazy! Because I believe it might have caused unnecessarily much work to layer them properly with all the other items and make two wersions of the shirt (a normal one and one tucked into the skirt).

But anyway I really like the outfit and the design is really nice. It's one of the reasons I watched Penguindrum in the first place.
