Lyra (Pokemon) in my art

After finishing the Usagi drop dress up I kind of noticed that the Lyra (Kotone) outfit was something that probably appeared quite often in the cosplay section of my games. I went through my entire gallery and indeed it was present in 7 dress ups (tree of which were Pokemon games though). And I noticed that I had drawn her a lot too.

I guess her Mario-like design warms my nostalgic heart? Because Super Mario Bros 1 & 3 and Super Mario World were pretty important for my childhood. And overall I really like her design, it's just creative and... perfectly balanced. Or something. And the cabbie hat, I've always liked them. Yes, has to be the big poofy cabbie hat.

Pokemon trainer dress up (June 10, 2009)

The first appearance of her outfit. If I remember correctly Lyra's desing was the reason why I made this game in the first place. There already was a "make a Pokemon trainer" game around, but it was male only. I had been thinking of making a game with girls too for a while, but ultimately it was Lyra's design that pushed me to actually start the project.

Originally I had little interest in layering things properly. The collar/overalls combo is just horrible! And I couldn't find out how to give her a black undershirt so I guess it's impossible. The mechanics of this game are pretty bad, I wonder how many visitors I managed to frustrate with it.

A cosplay outfit in Naruto Couples dress up (November 6, 2009)

Still with the fail layering of the collar. And apparently I didn't even draw her socks and the hat is horrible. What is this blasphemy!

An unfinished sketch in Art dump (December 6, 2009)

I had a plan to draw all the pokemon kids in a "characters standing next to each other with a white background" collage but I never made it further than sketch + 2 characters coloured in computer. This is one of the very few tries I've tried to make art other than dress ups or attempts at games/animations with Flash.

A cosplay outfit in Naruto couples dress up v.2 (April 4, 2010)

This time the outfit was only in three pieces (hat, shirt+overalls and socks+shoes) as opposed to the previous game where all items could be moved individually. It enabled me to draw the layering of the collar properly for once, but on the other hand it meant less customisability for the player. At this point I hadn't started putting effort into layering the collars properly yet so if they had all been separate pieces the layering problem would still be present though.

The hat, like most of the other female hats as well, didn't work too well with the doll's hair though.

Pokemon girls (May 31, 2010)

The first pokegirl collage. what makes me sad is that I like this more than the next attempt...

Pokemon girls v.2 (May 31, 2010)

I accidentally turned the lineart off when colouring the picture, I liked the result enough to post it as its own Deviation (in scraps though).

Pokemon girls dress up (June 19, 2010)

The only dress up where she appears in her own persona, the other games only have her clothes (and hair in the pokemon trainer creators). This is also the first game where the collar works properly. Back then I used a different code for it though, so the collar stays on the doll if you remove the shirt in the wrong way.

Cosplay outfit in K-on dress up v2 (August 6, 2010)

Completely forgot about this one. The hat just doesn't work! This time the overalls and shirt were in the same movie clip so I had no problem with the layering.

1M hits Pokemon girls (August 24, 2010)

She and Crystal are the only characters who I managed to draw to actually do something as opposed to just standing.

The hat in the Dress up tutorial (January 22, 2011)

Okay, it's not the whole outfit, but I really thought of her when trying to draw random hats for the material of the game.

2M hits Pokemon girls (May 27, 2011)

Yep, the old pic is better. I've been going backwards with my skills...?

Art dump 2 (August 4, 2011)

Another plan to draw the pokekids in line with a white background. Though this time the're actually doing something else than standing! And they're supposed to be younger, I tried to alter their outfits a bit.

lyra

Art dump 2 (August 4, 2011)

The grand plan of drawing Pokekids as Digimon kids and Digikids as pokemon kids didn't make it too far, but Lyra was one of the few I actually managed to finish. I don't think she looks like a Digimon character though...

Art dump 2 (August 4, 2011)

Yet another grand plan that went nowhere, this time various female characters standing in line with a white background. The point was to use the same pattern for a part of their outfits, which is an idea I might actually use some time later. I tried designing them new clothes that somewhat resembled their original outfit.

It's a bit shame how I somehow failed with the pattern in three (out of eight) of the girls I finished, the pattern is duller and more grey, and Lyra was one of those unfortunate characters.

This, like the other drawings in the Art dump 2, can possibly be a lot older than what the upload date might hint. These for example were in the same "series" as the Ponyo drawing, that was uploaded in June 24, 2010

Pokemon trainer creator v.2 (September 6, 2011)

Okay, the collar works (as opposed to the previous poketrainer creator), but the hat doesn't. It covers her face too much... And the game doesn't offer the correct colour shades. And I couldn't find the correct undershirt either.

This time with the bag too!

(November 20, 2011)

It turned out that she was one of the easiest characters to draw I could think of. At the beginning I was really fearing that she'd turn into a new "tea Seller outfit" from the Seth drawing project, but luckily I've managed to restrain myself somewhat.

(January 4, 2012)

This one managed to please me enough to get posted on DA in a compilation piece. Not that there's anything special about it though.

Cosplay outfit in Usagi Drop dress up (January 19, 2012)

This time with a less saturated colourscheme, at least for the overalls. Prompted me to draw the Mario outfit in the game as well.

lyra

(January 22, 2012)

There's nothing interesting in this one but I guess I like how the colours turned out.

lyra

(February 1, 2012)

And here would be the main reason the drawing project sucks.

lyra

(February 9, 2012)

...continuing here. They're only (around) a week apart!

lyra

(February 20, 2012)

...and here. At least it has Chicorita too so there's even some variation.

lyra

(February 25, 2012)

There's four of them in this month! At least there's something vaguely resembling "not just standing there" here; I kind of like this and had it been coloured better I might have included it in the compilation thing.

Princess Pokegirls (February 28, 2012)

I had this crazy idea to draw the Disney Princesses as pokemon characters, which of course meant that I had this irresistible urge to draw Pokemon girls as Disney princesses too. Didn't turn out all that well though... But I had great fun drawing all the folds!

Lyra's dress is probably my least favourite out of these, it just... doesn't work. And it's not as flowy, but I wanted to use Aurora's hem design on one of them. I had slight difficulty with turning the hairstyle into something that'd fit Disney world too.

lyra

(March 2, 2012)

March was the month of ~QUALITY~ so even the Lyra pic is better than average (?). No idea what's going on though...
