Pokemon Korra gang

(September 17, 2012)

Korra
korra korra

Korra was weirdly difficult in the same way as Ty Lee; the original outfit already was pretty pokemon-ish so I didn't exactly know what to do with it without getting too far from the original design or the pokemon style designs but still managing to create something new.

The original design had deligthfully many elements to choose from (hair style, shirt collar, two different arm bands, the triangle/dot design on the upper arm band, the "skirt", the fur, the band thing, poofy pants), and yet again I may have tried to include too many of them. Or I could have used them in a better way, this isn't that exciting.

I wish I could've been able to use the fur a bit better, but since it's not explicitly a winter outfit it would probably have looked stupid if I had put more fur in it.

Despite all the complaints I still like the PokeKorra design a lot and it's my favourite of this bunch.

Mako
mako mako

Unggh. I really hated designing the Mako/Bolin duo; Korra and Asami were finished right after the previous Pokemon Avatar characters, but Bolin and Mako were just so boring and difficult to design that the Pokemon Korra project was stalled. Their outfits gave me very little to work with, and on top of that they were almost identical so I had to spread the few ideas I got even thinner for two designs.

I guess I could have tried a bit harder with the scarf, but since Mako was one of my least favourite characters I wasn't exactly interested.

Bolin
bolin bolin

I only had ideas for one shirt from the Mako/Bolin designs, and Brolin got it since I like him more.

Used the shape of the collar for the shoes. The original design really didn't have much to offer...

I never draw the characters in this series with Pokemon since it's about the designs and not what pokemon they would have, but with Bolin I made an exception. For one I'm really not interested in hearing people telling me the clever idea that he should have a ferret pokemon, and I thought it'd divert attention away from the hopelessly boring design.

Asami
asami asami

I'm not exactly sure what to think of the Asami design. I do like it, but I'm not all that sure if it resembles the character that much...

Asami was relatively easy, since feminine designs are a lot easier to me than male or boyish clothes. I bet someone thinks that it's too girly, but in my opinion she was quite a feminine character (and there's nothing wrong with that). And with Korra and two boys in the same picture I needed some variation. Plus I just like drawing girly clothes.

I don't know if the goggles fit a pokemon trainer, but I thought they'd be a nice detail and something new I hadn't already used in this drawing series. And they possibly tone the girliness down a bit.

The original design had those nice circular patterns which were already fit for a pokemon design. I bet there would have been a better way to use them though.

The dress hem didn't turn out like I wanted but it's supposed to come from the shirt hem.
